I usually ask a lot of questions and came across a few people mentioning the same. When I questioned myself why I question a lot then came the answer as this article. There is an incessant flow of questions in our world. For instance a student questions his teacher, teachers question them back, kid questions parents and vice-versa, doctors question patients, engineer questions machinery, mutineers question governments, revolutionists question established facts, scientist questions thyself, lawyer questions witnesses, netizens question google and voters question politicians though it is strictly prohibited in democracy. So there are many questions around us and as mentioned earlier in fact this article itself is formed by a question why do I question a lot?
But why are questions important? Why should one question? Funny why will someone question, to get an answer, isn't it? But why should one get an answer? Now that's an interesting question. Answer creates a logical deadlock of questioning capacity of mind so that logically everything will be paired and the question never questions again. I often encounter people following what was told to do without questioning. If they simply follow what they were asked to do, why did God give them grey matter? If this is the case, in near future they can be replaced by machines. Even in my workplace I get humiliated by people who cannot ask me a question when something is delegated to them.
Based on my experience I've divided questions into following types -> Broadly dividing questions are only two types. Smart questions and stupid questions. Questions of necessity, important questions, rhetorical questions , questions changing lives, etc come under smart questions whereas stupid questions are just stupid questions.
I still remember the words of my school teacher the only difference between a scientist and a lay man is the letter 'y'. A scientist always tries to get answers by questioning anything and everything y did this happen?, what made this thing possible?, y couldn't I replicate with an experiment? And when he doesn't find answers, he questions himself for answers which he ultimately gets sooner or later. On the contrary we don't question everything because we take it for granted. But by doing so we are not finding way to unravel something which we didn't know earlier. When I say questions which changed lives Newton is the first to come to my mind whose question of 'why did apple fall down?' made man reach the Moon. The question was so powerful that it has changed lives of many in years to come. Some questions have greater impact when realized than raised. Mahatma Gandhi when subjected to discrimination and hardship while he was in South Africa awakened in him the question of social justice and role of British in India which sowed the seeds for Indian independence.
I haven't concluded this article because I got a stupid question whether people will read this article down through or are they smart enough to shut this down when they are half way through and get back to their busy schedule? Hmm I sense your immediate question if you have read this article down through :). So don't flush your questions before getting answers as who knows your moment of changing the future of many is just a question away. And I would be happy enough to get a comment "why did you write this article?", because I can see a question mark there.
Very thought provking..many people consider questionig as a sin...if we ask it might offend others..ur boss might get angry...and so on..but if we cannot ask..u will never get answers..and never move ahead....

ReplyDeleteVery interesting! But according to me, a majority of us ask questions to actually showcase our intelligence. I feel that the need to show people that We're equally knowledgeable subconsciously makes us to ask questions.
ReplyDeleteGood one Varma.
